Thank you for visiting the website of Sunny Hills Pediatric Dentistry. Our site provides important information about our practice that we hope will help you become familiar with pediatric dentistry. Our office is committed to providing your child with the highest quality of care. We will make every effort to ensure that your child’s first visit with us is a comfortable and informative experience.
Our goal is simple: We want all of our patients to have a great attitude towards their dental health. A beautiful smile can say much more than words- If your child is proud of his or her smile, it is a testimony to their commitment to great oral hygiene and preventive care. We will try to educate you and your child in the importance of preventive dentistry, and we are dedicated to providing comprehensive care.
Our practice has highly trained doctors and staff, as well as specialized equipment and facilities to properly address today’s most demanding pediatric dental needs, in a warm and caring environment.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry suggests that a child’s first dental visit occur 6 months after the eruption of the first tooth, or by age 1, whichever comes first. We will gently examine your child’s teeth and gums, and may clean your child’s teeth and apply topical fluoride to help protect the teeth against decay. We will review with you how to clean and care for your child’s teeth, and review dietary habits that may be affecting your child’s dental health. As your child gets older, x-rays may be taken to reveal decay and check on the progress of your child’s growth and development of his or her permanent teeth and jaws.
Similar to the AAP’s concept of a medical home for your child, the AAPD has formulated the concept of the Dental Home. A dental home is a place where your child will receive comprehensive, specialized dental care based on your child’s specific needs. The dental home’s goal is to place emphasis on preventive dentistry (such as proper oral hygiene and diet, sealants, and regular visits).
Unfortunately, some of the patients that come to us have already had a traumatic experience elsewhere. These patients may require more patience and behavior management, and our doctors are specially trained to work with such children. We will make every attempt to restructure your child’s attitude towards dentistry into a positive one.
